Hwy 128 Bridge Closure

Fire Chief Paul Pigoni speaks during The Geyserville Bridge Opening Ceremony
On Sunday January 1, 2006 members of the public notified the GFPD that the bridge was possibly sagging. The GFPD immediately closed the bridge and notified CHP and Caltrans. Caltrans has closed the bridge. On February 28, 2006 Caltrans announced that the bridge will be replaced, with demolition of the old bridge starting immediately. The new bridge opened to traffic on August 17th 2006.

Impact Mitigation

On Tuesday January 3, 2006 the GFPD began staffing Station 2. The Station is now staffed 24 hours a day. The GFPD has is paying the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) to staff it Monday, Tuesday during the day and 24 hours on Wednesday, with GFPD personal on all of the other shifts. The GFPD believes that this mitigation should return the level of service to as close to normal as possible.
